Bradley Barlow is a writer, performer, designer and director based in Portsmouth and was formerly Artistic Director of Pitchy Breath Theatre Company from 2016 to 2020.

Writing

Bradley focuses mainly on playwriting. His first play, The Family, debuted in 2009 and a revival run in 2010 won an Accolade of Excellence at the National Operatic and Dramatic Awards. Bradley has since written 143 Seconds in 2011, Dead Leaves in 2014, and short play That Night in 2016, all for Pitchy Breath Theatre Company. The Last Time We Saw You debuted for Pitchy Breath in April 2017, receiving a 5-star review. In 2018, Monsters: a Modern Frankenstein Story was toured, celebrating the 200-year anniversary of Mary Shelley’s classic novel.

In 2020, Bradley was scheduled to write and perform Screwed, a new one-man play about male mental health but this was postponed due to the pandemic – a project he hopes to revisit at a later date.

In 2022, The Legend of Grimm’s Tales, was performed by a cast of professional and community performers. His most recent play, A Stranger in our House, debuted in January 2023.

Bradley has also written reviews and features for websites and magazines such as Cultbox and Sardines.

Performance

As well as writing, Bradley has directed and performed on stage and screen for many years. His directorial work includes Closer by Patrick Marber (2010), Blackbird by David Harrower (2011), Tonight at 8.30 by Noel Coward (2011) and 4.48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane (2012), which he also performed in. Since 2014, he has also directed new plays for Pitchy Breath Theatre Company including Surprise! (2015), two shorts in Playing with Fire (2016) and The Truth (2019), as well as his own plays.

Bradley has performed on stage as Tom in Skylight by David Hare (2007), Game Plan by Alan Ayckbourn (2008), James Steerforth in David Copperfield (2010), Aiden in Scarborough by Fiona Evans (2012). He also originated the roles of Alex in Mokita by Jerrard Moore (2010) and Geoff in Inheritance by Fiona McIntyre, both for Pitchy Breath Theatre Company. Bradley played Trinculo in The Tempest (2016) for Polesden Lacey Shakespeare, as both Cinna the Conspirator and Lepidus in Julius Caesar (2017) for Pitchy Breath Theatre Company.

In 2018, Bradley played Lucky Eric in Bouncers (2018) in Dorking and his performance as Andy the lift engineer in The Flats (2019) was reviewed as “brilliantly funny”. He also played Mike in Moira Buffini’s Dinner (2019) in Merstham and could most recently be seen on stage in Wonderland (2021) for Groundlings Theatre opposite former Hollyoaks actor Paul Danan.

In 2020, as part of Pitchy Breath’s lockdown series of short films, Bradley wrote, directed, performed and edited Chat Room.

In 2021, Bradley played the Cheshire Cat in Wonderland for Groundlings Theatre and appeared in The Macabre Tales at Titchfield Festival Theatre. In 2023, he originated the role of Mark in Family Matters for Titchfield Festival Theatre.

Bradley can next be seen in Gaslight for Titchfield Festival Theatre in May 2023.

Design

Bradley also works as a freelance designer and has experience working on conference brochures, poster and web banner design. He has also designed products for Redbubble which can be purchased here.
